I've been dropping into Fortnite since Chapter 1 Season 4, and I've watched the storyline grow from simple teasers into a full-blown multiverse. But no character has dominated my locker quite like Midas. He debuted in Chapter 2 Season 2, and in 2026, he's still the gold standard—literally. From frozen kings to underworld escapees, Epic Games has given us several Midas variants, and I've ranked them all based on style, value, and how often I actually see them in matches.
Why Midas Still Matters in 2026
Midas arrived in Chapter 2 Season 2 as a Level 100 Battle Pass reward, and his ability to turn everything he touched into gold made him an instant icon. Since then, Epic Games has experimented with his design through seasonal events, crossover packs, and lore-heavy storylines. In 2026, the original Midas skin is still unavailable for anyone who missed that Battle Pass, which makes him one of the most coveted legacy skins in the game. The variants, meanwhile, have appeared in Item Shop rotations and real-money bundles, giving newer players a chance to own a piece of the golden king.
I've spent countless hours testing these skins in solos, duos, and creative maps, and I can tell you that not every Midas variant is worth your V-Bucks. Here's my honest ranking from least essential to absolute must-have.
7. Icebound Midas ❄️
Release date: December 23, 2021
Price: 2,500 V-Bucks (Black Ice Legends pack)
I remember when the Frozen Legends pack first dropped in 2018 and became a huge hit. Epic later gave Peely and Midas the frozen treatment, and Icebound Midas is the result. The icy-white eyes are genuinely menacing, and the frozen details on his suit look stunning in replay mode. But when I compare it to the rest of the Midas collection, it just doesn't stand out. The 2,500 V-Bucks price is steep, especially if you only want this one skin. If you're a completionist, go for it. Otherwise, I'd skip.
6. Golden Gear Midas 🤖
Release date: October 14, 2022
Price: $19.99 (Anime Legends pack)
Golden Gear Midas came with the Anime Legends pack alongside Ricochet Rox and Ready Penny. Unlike some other Midas skins, this one is not reactive, so he won't gradually turn gold as you rack up eliminations. He does have an alternate style with his helmet on, which gives him a cool mecha vibe. But here's the thing: $19.99 is roughly 2,800 V-Bucks, and unless you actually want the other two skins, the value isn't there. I bought the pack for Midas and barely used the others, so I can't call it a smart purchase for most players.
5. Midsummer Midas 🌞
Release date: June 24, 2021
Price: 1,600 V-Bucks
Midsummer Midas is perfect for the hotter months. Every Fortnite summer event brings quests and freebies, and if you want your skin to match the sunny atmosphere, this is a great choice. I love that you can toggle his jacket and glasses on or off, and you can also enable or disable the reactive gold effect. At 1,600 V-Bucks, it's reasonably priced, especially since you get multiple customization options. It's not my go-to, but it's a solid summer skin.
4. Midas Rex 🦖
Release date: November 18, 2020
Price: $29.99 (The Last Laugh bundle)
Midas Rex arrived in The Last Laugh bundle, which also included The Joker and Poison Ivy from DC. If you're a DC fan, this bundle is a no-brainer, and you get an awesome Midas skin on top of it. I think Midas Rex looks particularly tough in his full helmet gear, but you can also select the default style to show his face. The $29.99 price tag is high, but you're getting three skins. If you only care about Midas, it's expensive, but if you like the DC characters, it's worth it.
3. Shadow Midas 🌑
Release date: October 29, 2021
Price: 1,500 V-Bucks
Shadow Midas came out during Chapter 2 Season 8, a few seasons after the original. I consider it one of the most underrated Midas skins because I rarely see it in matches. The dark, mysterious look with purple shadows gives him an edgy vibe, and the reactive effect is excellent. If you missed the original Midas, this is a great alternative. At 1,500 V-Bucks, it's fairly priced, and it stands out without being too flashy. I often rotate this one when I want to feel like a villain.
2. Ascendant Midas 👑
Release date: March 27, 2024
Price: 2,000 V-Bucks
Ascendant Midas arrived during Chapter 5 Season 2, the Greek mythology-themed Myths & Mortals season. The lore was fantastic: Midas was locked in a cell in Hades' Underworld but escaped, becoming the ultimate golden king. This skin can turn gold, and it also has a 'Shade' style that gives it an Underworld Dash-like effect. I love the regal design and the story behind it. At 2,000 V-Bucks, it's not cheap, but it feels like a true evolution of the character. For me, it's the best modern Midas variant.
1. OG Midas 🥇
Release date: February 20, 2020
Price: 950 V-Bucks (Chapter 2 Season 2 Battle Pass)
The original Midas takes the top spot, and it's hard to beat the king himself. He has several selectable styles—default, Golden Agent, Team GHOST, and Team SHADOW—but his classic look is the most iconic. I still see players rocking him in 2026, and it instantly signals that they've been around since Chapter 2 Season 2. Unfortunately, if you didn't complete that Battle Pass, you have no way to obtain him. That exclusivity makes him even more special. For me, no variant can replace the original.
Final Thoughts
As of 2026, the Midas legacy is still going strong. Epic Games has not released a new mainline Midas skin since Ascendant Midas, but the character remains a fan favorite. Whether you prefer the frozen look, the summer vibes, or the underworld king, there's a Midas for almost every taste. Just remember: the original is locked away forever, so appreciate it when you see it in the wild.
| Rank | Skin | Release Date | Price | My Verdict |

| 5 | Midsummer Midas | Jun 24, 2021 | 1,600 V-Bucks | Great customization for summer |
| 4 | Midas Rex | Nov 18, 2020 | $29.99 (The Last Laugh bundle) | Excellent for DC fans |
| 3 | Shadow Midas | Oct 29, 2021 | 1,500 V-Bucks | Underrated and stylish |

| 1 | OG Midas | Feb 20, 2020 | 950 V-Bucks (Chapter 2 Season 2 Battle Pass) | The undisputed king |
If you're a Fortnite player in 2026 looking to add a Midas to your locker, I hope this ranking helps. Just don't expect to find the original in the Item Shop—some legends stay golden forever. 💛
